What Is Cissus?

Cissus quadrangularis is not a commonly known herb, yet it contains many beneficial properties for humans.  Cissus quadrangluris has been used for eons and has historical data from the ancient Ayurveda medical scripts.

Cissus, or Harjor, is a part of the veldt grape family.  It was referred to as the “bone mender” for its ability to promote healthy bone structure.  This is a very unique benefit of an herbal plant.

Cissus has the ability to trigger calcitonin, the thyroid molecule hormone that takes calcium out of blood serum to be more supportive of the skeletal structures.

This is a very important finding since bone health is a serious issue with a vast majority of people.  As we age, our bone deteriorate leading to diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis.  It is very important to promote healthy bone structure and bone health by taking herbal supplements such as Cissus quadrangularis.

Cissus Quadrangularis Studies

Recent studies show Cissus can promote healthy cortisol levels.  As our bodies are put under stress, physical or emotional, we produce excessive amounts of cortisol.  While cortisol does try to protect our system, a prolonged presence of cortisol can create a host of pathological conditions in the body. Cortisol can activate pathways that degrade not only bone, but skeletal muscle tissue as well.

Cissus Quadrangularis extract has been shown to be a natural cortisol inhibitor. Studies show that Cissus is capable of interacting with the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) by binding to it and acting as a GR antagonist, ensuring cortisol doesn’t bind to the receptor and therefore reducing cortisol’s negative effects and helping your muscle mass development.

Cissus Supplements

Over the past 10 years Cissus has gained popularity, especially among the bodybuilding community.  A product called Super Cissus was introduced for its ability to help support joints.  Then word spread about Cissus and its connection with cortisol.  This was a major finding within the bodybuilding community.

More recently many people are finding Cissus quadrangularis to be a great natural alternative to supporting bone health.  As many more people are suffering from bone ailments there are more and more people seeking out natural, homeopathic solutions.

Cissus has now become a well known herb for people of all ages.  From joint pain to unstable bone density, many have found Cissus to be a healthy, helpful alternative.

This has also shown a rise in more holistic herbal supplements containing Cissus such as Cissus Pro 1000.  Cissus Pro 1000 claims to be 100% pure Cissus extract with no fillers or additives.

Cissus herbal supplements are moderately priced, anywhere from $25 to $50 for 1 month supplies.

The Cissus Plant

Cissus quadrangularis grows in tropical climates such as India and Southeast Asia.  It is a viney plant that resembles jointed bones.  In Ayurvedic medicine it is mentioned that you can tell the use of a plant from its physical structure, as is the case with Cissus.

Cissus quadrangularis is not a heavily harvested plant as the global demand is not too high.

Most of the studies done with Cissus take place in India.
